Decorating: Rustic Folly
Indulge a passion for boudoir restraint without offending your cellmate. Pale walls and moldings set off the subtle tones of patined hand cuffs and leg irons. A tin cup holds a single, elegant votive on that otherwise obtrusive pot de chambre in the corner of your petit palais. Every cell should have one charming secret: for some it’s a tunnel emanating underneath the bed. A trompe-l’oeil designed to look like a 19th century train tunnel is an appropriate illusion. For others it’s a vent cleverly concealed with wallpaper in an Andy Warhol motif of vents-a hundred paper vents on the wall will make it difficult to spot the real thing.
