2013 Arley’s Leap Pinot noir
This wine harkens from a block of Pinot noir that was planted in 1990 at Abbey Ridge Vineyard. The eponymous hero was Bill and Julia Wayne’s old dog Arley, who jumped from a second story balcony when startled by a cat. You can discern classic Pinot noir low tones of tar, dark cherry and grilled Italian sausage on the nose. This year’s wine is a bit more robust than previous vintages, with a palate rich in red currants, pomegranate, tart cherries, horseradish and herbs de Provence. Moderate tannins appear in the nice long finish.
