2010 Nebbiolo

2010 was a very late vintage, so late in fact, that it seemed like a dumb idea to expect ripe Nebbiolo out of the deal.  As a result we decided to turn the 2010 Nebbiolo fruit into rossato, treading on the clusters with our tender feet for an extended period of time, allowing the juice to extract from the skins for many hours and finally pressing to neutral barrique for the fermentation.  After aging in the old barrique for over 2 years we bottled what turned out to be a quite incredible pink wine possessing a light dosing of typical Nebbiolo tannins (“sand on the teeth”),  an aroma of dried cherries and wonderful mouthfeel.  In essence we managed to pull off what can only be referred as “Nebbiolo light” one of the coolest pink wines of the season.
