2009 Abbey Ridge Chardonnay

A warm vintage such as 2009 usually favors the higher elevation and cooler sight  characterizing Abbey Ridge.  Add to that the 35 year-old Draper clones which occupy part of the original Chardonnay vineyard block at this vineyard and you are on to something significant.  In the cellar we fermented the juice from this pressing in old French Oak barrels from our favorite cooper, Claude Gillet.  The wine and all of its lies (sediment) was left to contemplate the future for nearly 2 years, undisturbed.  It is an old White Burgundy technique and the resemblance will be obvious to those who are familiar with the latter wines.
